What People Are Saying...Comments from
CMS@Overlake 2008
There were so many great musicians present and available to answer questions. The worship times were great and the concerts were awesome! Abraham Laboriel rocked!
Bob Kauflin's teaching helped keep focus on the Lord while still ministering according to the gifts each has recieved. Some musicians are easily distracted, hey look at that pretty butterfly.
I'm one of those soundboard operators that was basically plopped in front of it and left to the wolves about 3 1/2 years ago. I've been trying ever since to do my job to the best of my ability and let God do the rest. I learned so much by attending that I would recommend it to anyone for a heart to serve God in there worship ministry!
I went in this year without much expectation other than spending great time with my team. But the main session speakers were great, the team was inspired and we returned home with renewed passion for praising our God. Wow.
This event is such a blessing. To think of the impact that this has on ministries around the country, the thousands of people that are positively impacted by this gathering and the outpouring of information. It's awesome! This is my third year, and every year I come out feeling enriched and enlarged as a worshiper of God.
The sound in the main sanctuary (where the worship and general sessions were held) was unbelievably awesome this year! Absolutely amazing sound quality! In the middle of everything, you could even still hear the foot hi-hat going! Superb job on the sound!
I only expected to like 1 or 2 workshops. I learned valuable information from everyone of them! No matter what church size you are from you could take timeless information back and apply them.
It was our first year and we got so much out of the conference. Just to know there are other folks who are in the same boat we are was great.
My fourth year attending, I just think that this was the best one yet.
I don't know how it's possible, but I always come away feeling more inspired and enriched than the year before.
I loved how many different tracks of instruction were available, and the overall level of expertise of the instructors was excellent.
This was my 3rd CMS. I've gotten used to excellence. You set a high bar. Be glad you got there again!
A quality event, very inspiring as a non-musician to see things through their eyes. God used that time to open my eyes to new things.
Everything (including you guys) are so down to earth and open. It makes it a lot easier to take in all the stuff that is going on, and it also gives better opportunity to meet with God. I know He spoke to me big time through presenters and what they had to say.
My goal was to meet people from my town, so I don't feel like the 'lone' songwriter. And I did!
This event provided me with the tools to successfully lead our worship team.
Worship, and workshops were awesome, I can't wait for next year!
Amazing worship & inspiration. Good, challenging classes. Fun to relax and laugh at ourselves and with others facing similar issues in church leadership.
Thriving Musician Summit 2008
"I was greatly encouraged. I felt I came away with a lot more focus, clarity and direction for my ministry (worship leader). god confirmed through several speakers/workshops what He had already put on my heart."
"Actually I didn't know what to expect, but felt that it was very well run, a lot of classroom space and a very high caliber of individuals that were performing and teaching the workshops."
"something for every person involved in worship from sound to lead worshiper"
"full of helpful content, inspired me to worship, to excel, to learn and grow"
"The level of musicianship was better than what I expected."
"offering so much useful info in one place, excellent resources & knowledgeable professionals"
"The conference was a huge success again, and I really enjoyed being a part of it. The leaders who were running the show have a genuine heart for God and His worshipers. I enjoyed spending time with fellow Christians and learning from the awesome leaders, song writers, musicians, and pastors."
"a great time of worship with other musicians and worship leaders and a lot of great sessions."
"The heart of all the presenters in playing and presenting music for our Lord was always evident."
"I found help in many areas of my need. Spiritual, leadership, and mechanical/technical"
"we were there last year and this year was just as good. i think God definitely showed up and i was encouraged and convicted by what He taught me there."
"All the workshops I attended were first class! Paul Baloche's journey set was perfect. Not so much discussion on the how to's, but a concentration on the why do you do what you do... was perfect timing for me personally. I was given many practical tools as well as revived in the worship sets. Everything was first class. Great Job!"
"not only were the classes educational and informative but they were also fun. It was my first time at the event and i really didn't know what to expect but the whole weekend was awesome!"
"Cutting edge topics with top leaders in their fields leading the breakout sessions. Artists who are RIGHT NOW sharing what they do best in concert, and face to face in session WOW! While done very well, other conferences are kind of "what was then", and Bayside was definitely "WHAT IS NOW!!"
"Refreshed, enlightened. I knew coming to this conference would help me a lot. I know I haven't won the farthest traveled contest, but I came from Flagstaff Arizona, and made the 13-hour drive by myself, and I'd do it again in a heart-beat. Paul Baloche was my favorite speaker, and his workshop was really wonderful, spiritually fulfilling, and inspiring. I got a lot of sound help from some of the audio equipment booths and references to help the sound system at my church."
"I didn't know what to expect since this was my first one, so since I kinda went w/ a "whatever" attitude, I came away THRILLED! :-)"

"It was totally awesome. I had never been to one before and it was just filled with info and joy and praise to Our Lord!"
"Most conferences like this you come away with 1 maybe 2 concepts or ideas to take back with you. Both my team and myself came away with much more than that! 2nd- it was good to worship and not have to be thinking about leading worship or mixing sound etc. thereby I personally not only learned but came away refreshed and renewed in my own right." "On friday and saturday morning worship emptied me and then filled me back to a renewed urgency and passion for my Lord. the sessions were informative, entertaining and useful for not only myself but for the teams I work with" "I anticipated that I would come away from the conference having learned some valuable information to take back to my church..I didn't however anticipate the excitement and passion for leading worship that I came back with. Not only did I learn things at each seminar that challenged me spiritually that will help to build and grow our worship team, I am now BEYOND excited for what God is going to do through the worship etc. at our church!" "Being a first time event for the area, and not as big as some other conferences, although I expected it to be good, I didn't expect everything to be the magnitude it was and the information and teaching to be as top notch." "I attended the summit in November, which was great. But I was so excited to have one closer to home, and it was a great "first" summit for New York!" "It was not just the nuts and bolts of worship but a true experience in worship itself" "I was used to music conferences which primarily focus on the "nuts and bolts" of doing a worship service. The additional - and really primary - focus of CMS being worship of God was a very welcome difference. I really needed the spiritual renewal that the conference brought, even though I didn't know it until it happened!" "CMS provided me with the answers to why Worship is important to recsiving His Word. It clarified the importance of living the Word as a Worship Team member. It has inspired me to advance my skills as a musician. More importantly, it has inspired me to continue my walk with the Lord." "My expectations were exceeded because Bruce and Matt were always there taking a personal interest in things . I got the feeling that this conference was not a corporate driven event but rather one born from the hearts of a couple committed worshippers to share with others of the same mind." "A balanced combination of the practical and theological aspects of being a Christian musician and worship leader were well represented" "My spirits were uplifted! My skills were challenged! I was challenged and refreshed at every turn. Throughout it all I was reminded why I do what I do. All glory to Christ!" "CMS@theChapel was such an incredible time of corporate worship, learning, growing, etc and I was so blessed I can't begin to express it." Comments from the Christian Musician Summit and
Thriving Musician Summit Conferences
This was my first CMS and along with the learning and knowledge everyone had to share, worshiping GOD with hundreds of people who are GOD called, and driven by their love for GOD "That was amazing". First time at a summit, wasn't sure what to expect but overly enjoyed everything. I didn't know what to expect and I came away with more than I could have ever tried to expect Delivered as promised guys! What a wonderful time of worship and inspirational music. Great job on improving the food situation this year. Lots of choices and it was a smart idea to encourage people to go for lunch at different times. The ping pong idea was hilarious! Excellent presenters and musicians as always. I was able to attend a wide variety of classes in topics that interested me. I enjoyed it as much as I did last year. I loved the hearts of the speakers. You could totally tell that they were in love with God and had a heart for worship, and they did an excellent job in communicating that passion to me. I have a new view on how my heart should be when I play on my church worship team. I'm both inspired and refreshed! Chris Tomlin, Paul Baloche, Lincoln Brewster, Doyle and Haley Dykes, Great venue, great enthusiasm of all who were there! Also, I think you really did a terrific job of selecting workshops for all types of people involved in the worship leading process. The variety of workshops is tremendous. And having them recorded so we can continue to benefit from the conference weeks afterward is so helpful to me and I'm sure others. Great use of space in regards to exhibitors. Spliting them was a good call. Also appreciated having the decent food on site. Didn't have to leave once both Friday or Sat. Program was very helpful and informative! Having a listing of workshops by the room was helpful also. I'm learning the guitar and got a lot of tips through several classes. I also needed lighting and stage design info and I got that too. Also really amazed by the technology demonstrated at various booths. This is my second year and won't be my last. Our worship is significantly changed through this event. I was coming in nervous about everything, but the relaxed atmoshpere eased those fears. The artist selection could not have been any better. And the overall orginization of the event was miraculous. (You have no idea... Matt) My world was expanded and I have several projects/directions to focus on over the next year. There were so many classes to chose from; and the worship times were awesome. I felt it really met the goals of providing tools for people to improve our skills, but it blew it out (in a good way) in terms of inspiring talent! My team was incredibly inspired by how God focused the conference was and all the incredible things they learn. This years CMS had soooooo much to offer! It's the Christina Musician's Disneyland! WOW! This was my first time to this summit and I learned the most from the Songwriter's Bootcamp!! Thank you so much for that. I also enjoyed so much every speaker and teacher because of their hearts of humility. So many people asked how to "make it" in this industry, how to get noticed, etc. and each speaker that I saw who was presented with that question pointed the person to Jesus. And really reiterated the fact that if this is God's will for you, then HE would open the doors and make it happen. I have been attending for 4yrs and you guys do a great job at bringing in class Christian acts and workshop presenters. It is AMAZING how many wonderful artists you gathered for this event! As worship leader in a small church, several of our biggest problems are not enough musicians and tech guys and the people who are there don't have the excitement to move in the same direction the remainder of the church would like to go. This conference taught me to use the musicians effectively in their skills and to inspire those who need the vision of our church and worship. It seemed liked there were more exhibitors and from a worship stand point it was totally beyond Thunderdome! God's gifts being displayed. Inspiration, instruction ... Groove Lounge=WOW! Huge blessing! Lincoln's "Maximizing..." breakout session was as insightful and inspiring as his guitar playing is amazing. The worship was indescribable - we were truly at the throne of God. The instructors were generous with their knowledge which they had tons - providing it as if they were talking to friends - if that makes sense. I feared too much emphasis on a "market-driven church" approach to worship with too much focus on how to cater to the unchurched. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find much more emphasis placed on the heart behind the worship. I was refreshed by the worship sessions. I was heartened by the presence of hymns. I gained insights from all the sessions I attended. It was a fantastic weekend. I took mainly the tech courses and it is awesome that you have people working in the field putting them on. The worship and concerts were great. I am not a guitar player but, after seeing Doyle Dykes, I want to be. I am not a bass player but, after seeing Norm Stockton, I want to be. I am a drummer but, after seeing Zoro, I need to practice a LOT more. You chose some of the best talent in the world, great job. I was here last year and it was good. This year was even better. How do yall do it? As a worship leader it's great to get your batteries charged up. I've been to all of the CMS events and each year they get better and better, so My expectations are usually high. Top rated instructors, top rated musicians and talent from across the country, great worship and excellent insights from those that have been in the industry for years. Great Job, again. I expected some great worship time with some excellent WL's, but those times really led us together before God. I'm a nearly 50 year old worship leader and I was encouraged to stay with it through the sessions and presenter's encouragement. There was just about something for everyone - very well done. You could have easily charged twice as much. I came last year with one other person, this year with 9 others. Without exception our team grew closer to each other and most importantly we were all renewed and changed. I am so excited to see how God will use this renewed passion and fire and how He will ignite our church! Thank you for your vision, hearts and skill in putting together this incredible summit. I had never heard of it before and stumbled on to it while looking for something else on the web. I am part of a fairly new fellowship on our island and am blessed to be a part of our worship team. Eight of us travelled to the summit and were all encouraged, blessed and moved to seek more of God's vision for us here and how we can bless others and move them to and in worship. The speakers, the worship sessions, the concerts, the vendors, the cost and the venue could not have been better! We were all overwhelmed in a great way and are still praying and thanking God for this time of refreshment and learning. God Bless You!!!!! - Kim Flack, Friday Harbor, WA There is nothing I can say to wrap up the weekend other than this: If I've got to be stuck on one side of that tiny speck of dust in a beam of sunlight, I'm glad I'm stuck there with you. You are such a blessing in my life. Thank you for reflecting Jesus the way you do. - Troy Perry, Edmonds, WA I wanted to express how great CMS was. Our group had an awesome time. We all came back inspired and bubbling with ideas. The presenters I saw were excellent—Paul Baloche and Tom Kraeuter stand out in my mind. I was also amazed to see that many incredible musicians there. Most of all, the Lord really used this conference to speak to me. Thanks for putting on such a great event!!! I can’t wait till next year. - David Woll, Coeur d'Alene, ID I have seen quite a few venues of this nature over the years and i think that the warmth that resounds from all of you is really beautiful and I am very thankful that there is no pretentious spirit about the organization nor the event itself.... - Roby Duke, featured artist Wow...what a great weekend! The Summit was a tremendous event and came together wonderfully...great job! - Tim Carson, vocal presenter ~ this one is from a pastor to his worship leader & team... First — “Troy, thanks for encouraging all of us to go, staying on top of this and keeping us informed!” Second — “Troy, where’s the dotted line? I’m ready to sign up for next year.” Third — While I gained several invaluable things from CMS as a whole, I would like to briefly comment on last night’s worship service. ...Last night’s service [Indescribable Tour w/ Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman & Louie Giglio] was the most effective in expanding my incomprehension of God’s immensity and love. As Darrell said during the break, “I’ll never be the same!” I feel the same way. A link in the chain of my worldview fell apart and was replaced by a stronger one. Although I did not evaluate my experience as it was happening, I realize now how the Holy Spirit used these people to deliver Paul’s desire for the Ephesian believers when he prayed that they “may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge. . . - Pastor Victor Zuchowski GREAT Summit!!! Our God is soooooooo incredible, and once again this experience totally way exceeded my expectations (definitely was worth flying back early from our family vacation in Hawaii for). - Kraig Quisenberry As a worship leader I was very uplifted and inspired by all that was said and done there. I was most impressed by the fact that Jesus was kept as the center of focus not only in the worship sessions but also in the classes and the concerts. - John Hughes Last November was my first Summit! It was "over the top"! I am talking it up here with Christian musician's where I work. - Bruce Stalk My brother and I attended the seminar last year and loved it... We really enjoyed Seattle and thought the conference was first class. I am bringing several people with me this year! - Paul Kraker, Cleveland, OH THANK YOU SO MUCH for an incredible CMS!!! I know you guys go to so much work and also love what you are doing. You have a great ministry that helps us "work-weary worship ministers" be refreshed. Our worship-team attended CMS together for the second year, and though we were utterly exhausted this morning leading worship, we were SO PUMPED from such a great weekend and I think it rubbed off on the congregation. The LORD's presense was all-over everywhere at the conference and it was a bit of "heaven on earth." Such a great time on so many levels. I think the best part for me was the relational aspect--I skipped a couple workshops because I was having reunions with people I used to serve with at other churches. Also, last night's concert was the best ever! Thanks and the LORD bless you guys. - Carol Lucas way to go guys....an outstanding, God blessed event! - Randy Dietz I attended the summit this year for the first time. Thank you so much for your dedication and commitment to the Lord! What a refreshing time of worship and learning. As a worship leader and music teacher, I was a little skeptical going in because I know how much most musicians like to show off their talents and skills. However, I saw very humble, genuine worship leaders and musicians glorifying God with their abilities! I came away refreshed, renewed, and ready to lead our congregation into greater and deeper worship of Jesus Christ. I truly believe that the worship on Saturday night with the Indescribable Tour was the most intense worship I have ever been a part of. Thank you so much and I can't wait until next year! - Erik Parmenter, Watseka, IL Thank you for all your effort. The weekend was worth far more than I could ever have paid for it. All the classes were great, but one stands out - Leann Albrecht's Prophetic Journey of Worship. It took me to a higher place spiritually - I'm only just beginning to understand where I'm going with it. I can't thank you all enough. - Ann Dower I am still coming down from this weekend! Wow! Prior to the summit I was looking for tools to steer, veer and push my concept of our worship service on our church admin. In two days of being surrounded by love, encouragement and the overwhelming worship (4000 people that could carry a tune!) I was stripped down to parade rest, refreshed and redirected by God's Spirit. God is in charge and will complete the work He started in me, my church and His Church. Thank you for answering your call! PS - did anybody sign up that guy from Kenya that sign with Paul Baloche? - Mike Woodford I can’t thank you enough for all the effort you put into this weekend’s summit. You guys made it look easy! My team LOVED coming and you can bet we’ll be back next year! - Jason Strickling Great Job this year. I turned 10 people onto the summit this year and they were not disappointed. More next year - keep it up. - Michael Sanders Besides the day the Lord came into my heart this was one of the most amazing events I have ever attended. I want to personally thank you for your commitment to the Lord's calling and your complete obedience. I recognize this is a vision that will be carried through the generations!! I want to make sure you have me "hooked" up for next session already!! I would not miss it unless of course I am in heaven ahead of ya!! Praise God and Bless you. - Darcy Vey Thank you. Thank you for listening to the Lord as you prepared for this event. The God of heaven touched my life - blessed me incredibly beyond words (and I do mean silence). Last year, I was blessed by God and wanted to take back all I'd learned to contribute in greater ways to our worship team. This year, I met the Creator -- again, differently, indescribably -- humbled, encouraged, willing to become an obedient servant, to be available anywhere I am . . . from worship team to the office to my neighbors to the lady at the checkout . . . as He gives me ears to hear and breath to breathe and speak and the ability to keep these fingers playing for Him. Thank you from my heart. Look out (!) for what God has for next year. May He guide and bless the work of your hands! Love you in Christ. - Gwyn Christopherson I didn't really know what to expect. I'd been to smaller summits but this one blew them all away. The workshops were helpful and interesting. The concerts were outstanding. There was something for everyone. No one left without gaining some insight or ideas on how to further develop their particular gifts. I was looking for encouragement and instruction. That's what I got! I have been encouraging our worship team folks to attend, and finally this year they did. It was awesome for everyone! This was my first CMS event. It was definitely what I needed and more. The presenters were mostly excellent - especially Paul Baloche. As a worship team leader, I learned the most from him. |
